From 1986 till now involved in 55 research and monitoring projects (national and international projects).
Among them being coordinator/scientific responsible in 14 of them (7 international, 7 national projects).
Many of them concerned ecological studies and monitoring and assessment of Greek coastal and marine
ecosystems, with emphasis in eutrophication processes and toxic phytoplankton. Also participation to several
EU projects regarding eutrophication/HAB assessment and biogeochemical cycles, with special reference to:
1. «Technical Support in Relation to the Implementation of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC)».

eutrophication issues, as the EC-group on Thresholds, UNEP consultation group on MED POL, EEA
working group on Marine Eutrophication indicators, participation/membership in the ETC/MCE since 1997,
which included participation in several meetings and tasks, among them being co-author in the chapter
regarding “Eutrophication” for the EEA report (1999) on “State and pressures of the marine and coastal
Mediterranean environment”.
Invited speaker in several meetings, workshops. Invited to give lectures in the frame of postgraduate studies
in Greek universities, etc. Supervised several BSc and MSc theses and student training exercises in
collaboration with Greek Universities. Currently supervising a PhD thesis. Invited speaker in meetings with

2011-2014: Mediterranean Sea Acidification under changing climate (MedSeA), 381204 €, FP7 / ΕC (66.21%) & GSRT (33.79%), Contribution to the “Quantification of the impacts of ocean acidification and warming on ecologically and socio economically important species” by assessing the ecological response of the harmful algal bloom (HAB) species Alexandrium minutum to ocean acidification and warming in the Eastern Mediterranean using laboratory experiments. PI. 2011-2012: Dynamics of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in three eutrophicated bays in Greece and Turkey. Resting cysts and their role in the establishment of HABs. Joint Research and Technology Programmes. Turkey- Greece, 2010 – 2011, GSRT.15000 €, PI 2007-2011: SPICOSA IP: Science and Policy Integration for Coastal Systems Assessment, FP6 / ΕC (66.21%) & GSRT (33.79%), Contribution to the formulation of a System Approach Framework (SAF), in order to explore the dynamics of Coastal-Zone Systems and potential consequences of alternative policy scenarios in the frame of Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Thermaikos Gulf.
