Jesus Came to Set up a Kingdom
A. “That the living ones may live no more to themselves, but to Him who died a. We are to live our life for God.
b. Revelations 1:5-6 (ASV) and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and loosed us from our sins by his blood; 6 and he made us to be a kingdom, to be priests unto his God and Father; to him be the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
1) Jesus loosed us from our sin.
a) Sin no longer has dominion over us.
b) Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you 2) The reason that we are loosed from sins is we are put into the Kingdom of Goda) A kingdom are those that live under the rule of the King.
II. The purpose of Jesus coming was to set up a kingdom.
A. John 18:37 Pilate then said to Him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, You say It that I am a king. To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.
1. Luke 17:20-21 And being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered and said, The kingdom of God does not come with observation. 21 Nor shall they say, Lo here! or, behold, there! For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.
a. His kingdom is not an earthly rule. b. His kingdom comes in our hearts.
c. The new heart that we received that allows us to be under the 1) Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
2) Mark 9:1 And He said to them, Truly I say to you that there are some of those who stand here who shall not taste of death until they see the kingdom of God come with power.
C. Matthew 1:21 And she shall bear a son, and you shall call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.
a. By saving us from our sin Jesus made a way to be in His kingdom.
b. Sin has bondage.
c. Sin is addictive.
2. Through Jesus we are loosed from sin so sin would no longer have control 3. Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under Law, but under grace.
a. Jesus loosed us from sin. By making His grace available for us.
b. His grace was that He saved us from our sin.
c. Sin had power over all man from Adam. d. Romans 3:23, 24 for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus;1) We have been justified 2) Through redemption that is in Christ.
3) Christ made a way for us where there was no way by His blood.
e. Colossians 1:13-14 For He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son; 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins.
1) Jesus did not just command us to be free from sin but He made us 2) For us to be able to be in His kingdom we had to be loosed from the power of sin because you can not obey sin and God.
a) Romans 6:12-18 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 Do not yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves to God, as one alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under Law, but under grace. 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under Law, but under grace? Let it not be! 16Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves to him whom you obey; whether it is of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness. 17 But thanks be to our God that you were the slaves of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 Then being made free from sin, you became the slaves of righteousness1. Because we have been freed from sin we are not to let sin 2. It is like being addicted to something if you keep using that thing the addiction will remain. If you are addicted to caffeine and you keep drinking coke, Pepsi, and coffee you will never get free. 3. We have been freed from sin. If we do not let sin have a place it will not be able to control us but if we continue to do the things that we did in the past we will still be under its bondage.
4. We have to obey from our heart the rule of Christ to be in His 5. Being in a kingdom is different from being a citizen in a 6. You can be a citizen because you were born in the country. 7. Kingdom you have to obey the rule of the King.
3) Not everyone who says to Me, Lord! Lord! shall enter the kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven.
4) Examples of how to get into the Kingdom.
a) Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which when a man has found it, he hides it, and for the joy of it goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.
b) Matthew 13:45-46 Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls; 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
1. Total commitment2. Giving up all to be in the kingdom of God.
c) Matthew 13:47-50 Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea, and gathered some of every kind; which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. So it shall be at the end of the world. The angels shall come out and separate the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire. There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. III. To be priests unto his God and Father A. We are put into the kingdom so we can be priestsB. 1 Peter 2:5 you also as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1. We are living stones we are part of the kingdom and we are build into a spiritual house for the Lord. We are to offer up spiritual scarifies 2. Hebrews 9:14 how much more shall the blood of Christ (who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished spot to God) purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? A. 2 Corinthians 5:17 So that if any one is in Christ, that one is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
1. The result of the blood of Jesus is that we may be new creature.
2. That we may live a new life 3. That we may live in the kingdom (obey God's commands)4. We may be priests to God.
5. Hebrews 9:14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through [1] the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish unto God, cleanse [2] your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Can you be a priest without being in the kingdom? BE A DOER OF THE WORD
We have been loosed from sin so let us live in the kingdom of God and be priest to
the world.
