A Specialist Maths and Computing College SATs Results We have just received provisional figures for our SATs results for Maths and Science. Both exceeded their targets and gained their best results ever. Maths achieved 82% of students with level 5 and above, with Science gaining 83%. At the top end, an astounding 33% of students gained level 7 and above in Maths and nearly 20% in Science. Congratulations to our Year 9 students and their teachers who have worked hard to achieve this fantastic result. English results will be available nationally in August. Senior Leaders Monday 19th June was Election Day at Attleborough High School. All students and staff were invited to our own polling stations during the day to cast their votes for Head Boy and Girl. During the previous week, hustings were held in assemblies and all eight House Leaders presented their manifestos. Congratulations go to Yasmin Giles and Michael Davies who were duly elected to these important positions. One key role that Michael and Yasmin will carry out will be to jointly chair the Student Council. The first formal meeting under their leadership has now taken place where a decision was made on the new house tie. This will be similar to the present one but with the school logo in house colour and a slightly different configuration on stripes. The tie will be available from the school shop in September. Jeffrey Blagg On the 15th June we were visited by the first Head of the school, Jeffrey Blagg. Jeffrey was Headteacher here from when the school opened in 1965 until his retirement in 1985. He is fit and well and it was a real pleasure to be able to show him around the school which has changed considerably since his time. He was able to speak to staff who were here when he was and to talk to some students whose parents were taught by him. The highlight of his day was when he was in an assembly, listening to our students delivering their election promises. At the end of the assembly, he was introduced to the students who gave him a rousing round of applause in true AHS fashion. Sports Day On Thursday 8th June we held our annual sports day. This inter-house athletics competition, was the first to be held with our newly formed houses and the response from the student crowd was outstanding. They cheered their classmates on with great encouragement as the competitors gave their best on the running track. The winning house in both junior and senior events was Boudicca. The trophy for most promising young athlete went to Junior Hall, a Year 8 student in Cavell house. End of Term Arrangements On Friday 21st July, we will be closing the school at lunchtime as we did last year. Students will be released from school at 13:30 and buses will be arriving early for those who travel to one of the local villages. School lunches will be provided at breaktime for those who have free meals and any student will be able to purchase food then. The day will be a non-uniform day for students who wish to make a £1 donation to a named charity, which has been determined by the Student Council. 9 Norwich Road, Attleborough, Norfolk NR17 2AJ
E - [email protected]Activities Week Last week was Activities Week which was organised in houses and based around our five faculties: Maths and Computing; Design and Art; English, Music and Drama; Science and PE; Humanities and Languages. Students had a variety of very enjoyable and educational experiences throughout the week. Visits included an outing to Woburn Safari Park and an exhibition at the Norfolk Show by our Duke of Edinburgh group who were able to have a discussion with Prince Edward. Several students were also involved in painting murals around the school which has made a big visual impact on our school environment. Lost Property Students must claim lost property by end of term, as we will be disposing of any remaining items (to charity, wherever possible). Student Transport Passes 2006/2007 Norfolk County Council has requested that the 2006/2007 bus passes are distributed to students via the school. The passes will be distributed to students during the week commencing Monday 10 July 2006 as follows:
Your child will be asked to sign for their pass once they have received it. It would be helpful if students are reminded by parents/carers to hand over their pass once it has arrived home for safe keeping until needed in September. Please remember that if lost, the Norfolk County Council currently charge £6.00 for replacement passes. Unfortunately, the school cannot be held responsible for passes that are mislaid once they have been signed for. If you are not in receipt of their child’s pass by the end of the week, please contact the school. Attleborough High School Proudly Presents: Twelfth Night (or the Bard in Ibiza!) We have brought this famous William Shakespeare comedy up-to-date with a selection of Euphoric House and Cream soundtracks (there are also some Golden Oldies in there too). Following a plane crash over the Balearic Islands, Viola is washed up on the beach of modern day Ibiza. Fearing her identical twin brother may be drowned, she goes to work disguised as a man for the local duke. Meanwhile, we discover that her brother Sebastian has survived the plane crash and his appearance in Ibiza inevitably causes trouble due to mistaken identity. With a full cast of the usual drama miscreants and some new ones too, we invite you to step aboard Flight 101 and enjoy Shakespeare’s musical romp through Ibiza. Shows are to be held from 7.00 pm until 9.30 pm on Thursday 6th July and Friday 7th July in the Main Hall. Tickets cost £5.00 (£4.00 concessions) and are available to purchase during the morning break time period from Monday 3rd. Wrong Trousers Day Our ‘Wrong Trousers’ Day on Friday 23rd June was a great success. Students and staff entered into the spirit of the occasion, raising over £500 to help improve the quality of life of children in hospitals and hospices throughout the UK.
