EAST CAROLINA MEDICAL ASSOCIATES-Patient Instructions for Procedures
 Prepare to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.  If you are unable to attend your scheduled procedure, a 48 hour notification is required to avoid being billed $150.00.  If you think you may be pregnant or if you are breastfeeding, please speak with your referring physician prior to your  Items to bring with you:
→Insurance card
→Current medications/List of current medication with dosages and how often you are
to take them. If you are instructed to not take any of your medications, please be
sure and bring them with you in order to take them after your procedure.
Diabetic patients ONLY: If you will be eating 4 hours prior to procedure, please take your diabetic medicine at
that time. If you will not be eating do not take your diabetic medication, however bring the medication to your
appointment.

Procedure Instructions: For ALL of the below procedures please wear 2-piece clothing. If you are instructed to
wear comfortable shoes for procedure please do not wear sandals or backless shoes (tennis shoes are required).

24- Hour Holter
Allow 30 minutes for instructions. Patient will not be able to shower while wearing the monitor. Monitor must be returned to office the following day. Patient must be fasting for at least 6 hours prior to procedure. Abdominal Aorta Scan
Patient must be fasting for at least 4 hours prior to procedure. (Nothing to eat or drink). Dobutamine
Patient should wear comfortable walking shoes. Procedure will take approximately 1 ½ Stress Echo
No prep other than clothing mentioned above. Procedure will take approx 1 hour. No prep other than clothing mentioned above. Procedure will take approx 15 min. Patient must be fasting for at least 2 hours prior to procedure. (Nothing to eat or drink). Exercise Stress Test
No caffeine or nicotine 4 hours prior to procedure. Patient should wear comfortable
walking shoes. Procedure will take approx 1 hour.
Allow 30 minutes for instructions and hook-up. No prep other than clothing mentioned Looping Event Monitor
Non Looping Event Monitor
No prep other than clothing mentioned above. Button up top preferred.
Patient must be fasting for at least 4 hours prior to procedure. (Nothing to eat or drink). Stress Echo
Patient should wear comfortable walking shoes. Procedure will take approximately 1 ½ hours. Venous Arterial
No prep other than clothing mentioned above and comfortable walking shoes. Nuclear Stress Test
The day before and the day of your procedure please do not take any of the following medications:
No caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol 24 hours prior to procedure (caffeinated products include but are not limited to:
chocolate, coffee, tea, soda, ect.).
You must be fasting for 4 hours prior to procedure. (Nothing to eat or drink with the exception of water, you may
drink water).
Patient should wear comfortable walking shoes. Please do not wear any clothing with metal, jewelry, or snaps.
Procedure will take approximately 3-4 hours.
